In general, the goals of physical are to decrease pain, restore prior level of function, and provide education on how to prevent reoccurrences. This should include a program that enables the patient to continue their progress after Physical Therapy treatment has been completed.
A physical therapy program for back pain usually has two components:
- Passive physical therapy to help reduce acute pain to a more manageable level.
- Active exercises that restore range of motion, flexibility, strength, and pain free function.
